Two free workshops for retirees and pre-retirees in Volusia County

Once a month, Steven L. Rich teaches two classes — one on Social Security claiming strategy, one on taxes in retirement. Free, educational, hosted through a 501(c)(3) non-profit. No sales presentation, no obligation.

Why these workshops exist

Slow the decision down. Put the math on the table.

Most retirement decisions get made in a vacuum, in a hurry, often using information from whoever called last. These classes are hosted through the American Financial Education Alliance, a 501(c)(3) non-profit — the content is educational, and if you’d like to discuss your own situation, Steven is available for a complimentary one-on-one.

The two workshops

Attend one, or both

  • The math behind filing at 62, full retirement age, and 70
  • Spousal and survivor benefits, and coordinating two filings
  • Divorced-spouse benefits many people miss
  • How Social Security gets taxed, and how to plan around it
  • Common mistakes that cost retirees tens of thousands
Workshop 2 Taxes in Retirement · taught by an RICP®
  • Why pre-tax, after-tax, and tax-free accounts behave differently
  • How withdrawal sequencing affects your lifetime tax bill
  • Roth conversions and when the window is most valuable
  • Required Minimum Distributions and planning before age 73
  • The surviving-spouse tax cliff and how to plan for it

Why Steven teaches these

Steven has spent 15 years working with retirees. He moved to New Smyrna Beach from the Jersey Shore with his wife Amanda and their three kids, and built his practice around the community. The workshops are how he brings real planning education to the people who need it — in the place where they live.

Frequently asked

Workshop questions

Is this really free?

Yes. There’s no charge to attend and no obligation to schedule anything afterward.

Will I get sales calls afterward?

No. The workshops are hosted through a non-profit. We follow up only if you specifically request a one-on-one conversation.

Can I bring a spouse or friend?

Please do. Decisions like these are easier to make with the people they affect.

What if I’m already collecting Social Security?

The Social Security workshop still covers spousal, survivor, and coordination strategies that may apply. Some opportunities exist even after filing.

Do I have to live in New Smyrna Beach to attend?

No. The classes are open to anyone, and we regularly host attendees from across Volusia County and beyond.
